The Peoria SCORE Chapter and the Entrepreneurship Center of west central Illinois are teaming up to recruit business executives who can mentor area entrepreneurs.
“Members of our SCORE chapter have been counseling businesses in the Galesburg area for years,” said Fred Prager, Director of Marketing for SCORE Chapter #0090. “With the recent boom in entrepreneurial activity in the region, due in large part to the efforts of the city’s collaborative efforts and the incubators there, we wanted to establish a more formal outreach mentoring initiative. We’ll need to find several business mentors from the Galesburg area who will volunteer their time and expertise,” said Prager.
Ryan Lilly, manager of the Entrepreneurship Center, commented as to the value SCORE counselors provide, “These are men and women who often have decades of experience in a given industry and are willing to pass that hard-earned wisdom onto others. A few minutes with a SCORE counselor and you begin to realize the value of the guidance they provide – enduring business principles and coaching that apply even to today’s high-tech startups.”
SCORE has 364 chapters and counts over 13,000 volunteers as members across the United States. SCORE volunteer mentors have the opportunity to share their expertise with a new generation of entrepreneurs, connect with other business owners, and give back to their community by providing free confidential business counseling and numerous workshop presentations.
To pick up a SCORE volunteer application, please contact Ryan Lilly. SCORE volunteers do not necessarily need to be retired, and often come from a wide variety of industries, backgrounds and business experience. Mentors are expected to be available to meet with clients at least a few times each week in the Galesburg area. New SCORE volunteer mentors will receive quality training.
